Did you know that the Florida State Board of Education is erasing the truths behind slavery and massacres of Black Americans from its history curriculum? This is a cowardly move. And Florida’s only the beginning –– one of 20-plus states trying to ban accurate American history from their classrooms. 

We’re fighting to ensure our school systems teach the true history of our nation, both the good and the bad. The standards approved by the Florida State Board of Education downplay the horrors of slavery and omit crucial facts about our shared fight for civil rights, robbing our children of their freedom to learn the truth. 

Schools should be teaching our kids the full complexity of American history in an age-appropriate way, so every student is prepared to be a good citizen and future leader of our diverse and great country.
